a bandit and wild orchids

lc2212

I’m always delighted to find a patch of this Wisconsin wildflower. The pink ladyslipper (Cypripedium acaule) is one of Wisconsin’s wild orchids.

lc2213

There’s a wayside near Necedah where they grow, I’ve yet to find them in other areas – but maybe someday.

lc2211

They’re a rather large orchid, maybe the size of an Iris. . .

lc2214

A little further down the road this raccoon crossed our path.

lc2215

He crossed the ditch and came out wet on the other side. “Bye Bandit!”

and still further down the road I found a field of blue. Lupine is very important to the endangered Karner Blue Butterfly – I tried to find the butterfly, but all I found was lupine. Someday though I will see one!

You are so lucky to have captured a picture of that raccoon. He’s so my favorite of these pictures. Just glad you didn’t get hurt. I’ve heard they can be really mean. The orchids are beautiful. I do wish you could have spotted a butterfly or two. Maybe next time.

Nice orchids! Now the bandit. Who does it remind you of? Angelina? Sometimes, I swear she’s a raccoon with that mask around the eyes.

I can honestly say I’ve never had such great candy photos on the blog. It’s up, it’s wonderful, thank you so much. And you were right about pasting the HTML.

How lucky you were to run into the little bandito. His fur is wet…. must have been tip toeing through the flowers and weeds. I love your photography and hope for the day that my shots are as GREAT and AWE INSPIRING as yours! Wonderful.
