Pelican Island

We passed an island full of Pelicans!

I think they were having a party!

Too bad some had to miss the party while pulling babysitting duty.  I had never seen a baby pelican before.

Everybody else was dancing and having a good time.

Seagulls were invited too – hmmm, I wonder what a pelican seagull would look like.

And a Commorant showed up for the ball!

We get white pelicans on the Yakima River from about Mrch to sometime in September. I have never been able to get quite so close to them, though–even with my zoom.

They are beautiful! We have lots of pelicans here but only the brown ones. Those white ones are very impressive.
