Skipper Macro Monday

lc2748

I don’t always use my macro lens for my closeups. Sometimes, the 400mm can do a better job since I can be further away. This helps to make the creature feel safer and have less chance of leaving. Of course, in this case I think the fence helped too.

Macro Monday is easy to play, snap a macro (or any close-up) photo, post it on your blog and come back here and sign MckLinky. Don’t forget to visit each other. :)

Beautiful shot! I use my long lens (300mm) for a lot of my macro shots, too!

I like the way these turned out Lisa. The colors work out well. The green background helps without distracting. The regular form of the chain link helps as well. Of course your photographer’s eye for composition helped most of all.

My favorite macro set up is a Nikon series E 75-150 mm zoom lens with a close up lens attached. The close up lenses I have are both high quality Nikon optics (dual element) and the 75-150 mm lens is legendary. I waited for over a year before I was able to snag a good one on ebay. That was 5 or 6 years ago now.

My other favorite focal length is 50mm. I have four of those.

John

That’s gorgeous. The fence framing is a nice touch. I’ll have to try that with the zoom!

Excuse me, did you say 400mm? That’s a lotta cake… but I can understand. I can get 400mm using a 2x expansion tube on my 200mm f/2.8 but it costs me 2 stops and slows my focusing abilities down dramatically (especially in AF — and actually I can get 560mm if I add on the 1.4x behind the 2x, but focusing is… shall we say… “interesting”. And frustrating.) So even though I can come up with the focal length, trying to shoot wildlife — even the small friendly kind — with it would be an exercise in futility. I certainly don’t think I’d be getting anything like this. (Actually, I’m not sure I’d have seen this guy from that far away, much less tried to shoot him.)

Nice job!

That’s one thing I don’t have (well, more than one, but in this case…) is a long focal length lens. I was considering the 18-50 “macro” — but I’m not entirely sure about the macro part. Will it really do macro? Anyway, your pics are, as usual, a thing of beauty.
